Invitation

First Open Meeting
6th – 9th July 2017
Mallorca, Spain

Introduction
ASOS was founded in 2000 by colleagues with similar interests from the United Kingdom and Spain. Since then the Society has met on a yearly basis, and in 2017 hosts its first open meeting on the Balearic island of Mallorca.

The intention is to provide a forum where clinical experience can be openly discussed amongst colleagues in a relaxed setting, with ample time to mix socially and to explore the island and its Balearic culture.

Dates
1800 Thursday July 6th   – 1400 Sunday  9th July, 2017.

Venue
The congress will be held in the secluded Hotel S’Olivaret, located in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage site (Map). The beautiful towns of Alaro, Deia and Soller lie close by, with the wide open bays of Alcudia and Pollença barely 40 minutes drive away. With so much beautiful countryside, and places of interest, delegates will wish to stay for longer.

Sponsors
Instituto Balear de Oftalmología
Bausch + Lomb

Schedule:
Held in the breath-taking mountain resort of S’Olivaret, we shall spend the mornings discussing challenging cases from our own practices, and in the afternoons explore the island.

The congress will be conducted in English.

•    Thursday July 6th
An evening reception will be hosted in the beautiful mountain-side resort of S’Olivaret at 1800, followed by a swim in the infinity pool for those who need to cool off, and dinner at the hotel at 2030.

•    Friday July 7th and Saturday July 8th:
Morning scientific sessions will be held in the hotel between 0900 and 1130, followed by light lunches and cultural events in the afternoons. These will include a reception at IBO, a private visit and dinner in the remarkable Arabic Gardens of Alfabia, a visit to a local vineyard, and a day’s sailing with lunch on board.

The Gala Dinner will be held on Saturday evening in the private country residence of C’an Manyolas, a few minutes from S’Olivaret.

•    Sunday 9th July
The conference ends after a short morning scientific session and a light lunch. An afternoon expedition or local walk will be organized for any planning to stay on the island for a few extra days (which is highly advisable!).

Accommodation:

Hotel reservation
S’Olivaret is a small hotel of only 25 rooms, and ASOS has reserved 12 of these (of varying size) until December 1st. The rates below include ASOS discounts of 10% – 25%, the amount depending on room size.

After December 1st these rooms will be released and he discount may not apply (depending on local demand), and typically book up very quickly. You are therefore strongly advised to make the reservation before this date (payment will be taken later, cancellation fees may apply).

To reserve your room(s), please contact Miss Susana Romero Carballal who is managing the ASOS bookings on susanaromero@solivaret.com
Please cc any correspondence to info@ASOS.bio

Susana Romero Carballal is also available on +34 971 510 889. Please quote ‘ASOS 2017’ and the pre-reservation number 11527/1-12. She will take reservations directly.

Rates per room (not per person) per night at S’Olivaret (bed & breakfast):
Single occupancy of a double room: €135
Standard double room, 2 adults: €160
Superior double room, 2 adults: €165
Superior double room with terrace, 2 adults: €170
Junior suite for 4 (2 – 3 adults, 1 – 2 children): €200
Superior suite for 4 (2 – 3 adults, 1 – 2 children): €250

All rooms are furnished to a high standard in classical Mallorcan style, and the superior rooms and suites are well worth the small extra surcharge – they are really quite exceptional. Some may consider sharing a suite with colleagues, offering very good value.

Alternative accommodation
The meeting will be small and it is hoped that all delegates will book accommodation in S’Olivaret. If absolutely required, alternative accommodation can be found in the smaller Petit Hotel 3 miles away in the village of Alaro, and the Hermitage Hotel about a mile away. A neighbour in Alaro has also offered to rent rooms at rates similar to the Petit Hotel.

Please note that if delegates book accommodation elsewhere, they are responsible for their own transport (taxi or hire car) to S’Olivaret.

Transport:
Flights to Palma de Mallorca are readily available in July. ASOS will arrange a minivan to the hotel (35 minutes) if sufficient numbers of delegates arrive on similar flight(s). Taxis from the airport to the hotel cost ~ 50 Euros. Equally, we can arrange car hire for a reasonable 40-50 Euros per day.
Once at the hotel, ASOS will arrange transport to and from the social events.

Registration fee
ASOS meetings are not-for-profit.
A registration fee will be raised to cover 3 lunches, 3 dinners and all social events, these at the most reasonable rates possible. This registration fee can be paid by BACS before or during the congress (or by credit/debitcard with a small transaction fee) and is likely to be ~320 Euros or less (to be confirmed).
A significantly lower fee will apply to trainees.

Welcome to Spain. Viva ASOS.
